A less useful method is roll-dodging as it uses a lot of stamina and moves you away from your target. A heavy attack is executed by a long-press of the standard attack button. It is the same method for heavy attack weaving: heavy attacks are used to gain back stamina/magicka and necessary all few minutes to keep your resource pool up. You need to practice this, to gain the muscle memory. So the rotation is light attack / skill / light attack / skill / light attack / skill and so on. The skill does cancel the light attack animation. The skill then overrides the light attack animation and applies its damage.
